The first 'Australian Flowers Week' is coming

Posted

As an industry, the Australian cut flower industry is significant. We have over 2000 florists, hundreds of farmers, importers, wholesalers and logistic firms that rely on our industry.

However like a lot of other industries, we are made up of a lot of small businesses who often don't interact with each other or have a strong voice in the general public.

This year is the start of having a strong, shared voice. On the week beginning the 17th of September, we will be all working together to promote our product. Fresh Flowers!

A bunch of activity is happening across the country. Being the first year - it is going to be small activity. But hopefully over time we can make this a week where we remind the general public about how good the gift of flowers can be.

We face tough competition from other gifting products. Gift cards, experiential gifts, hampers, group deals, etc. So we need to join voices and let everyone know that we have a great industry here in Australia and it supports a lot of great people. Sometimes I think we are closely related to orthodontists because we are really in the business of putting smiles on faces.

So next week, I encourage everyone to:

1) Walk into a florist.

2) Ask them for a flower arrangement from a locally grown farmer in your region.

3) Ask them to be creative (they love that).

4) Buy a bunch of flowers and give it to someone else. You will make them smile and you wont be disappointed.
